We couldn’t be more excited about our first national convening of young leaders who have been nominated by the organizations we have collaborated with over the past three years. We're calling it ChangeUp 2015.
With the leadership of the amazing team at MASS LBP, a first rate program of speakers, panels, workshops (and fun!) await the 77 delegates traveling to Toronto from across Canada. We will spend 4 days at the beautiful new Ismaili Centre – one of 6 global peace building centres – and the Aga Khan Museum grappling with some tough social and cultural issues. For example, Active Voice Lab founder Ellen Schneider shares her tools for creating compelling narratives and communicating with different audiences. Using examples from her own work and recent projects from our delegates, Schneider provides practical ideas for creating messages that inspire change. In Reconciliation: What Comes Next? activist and academic Hayden King discusses the path ahead for Indigenous politics and rights in Canada. In dialogue with delegates, King will explore different possible routes to reconciliation as well as the conceptual and practical barriers that stand in the way. We will learn from seasoned pros and from one another about how to be more effective change leaders in our communities, and for our world.
Of particular note, we're hosting two special evening panels:
An evening with Lee Maracle and Marie Wilson
Reconciliation and the Way Forward
Thursday September 17, 2015 7:30PM
An evening with Desmond Cole and Barbara Hall
#BlackLivesMatter: Public Protest and Human Rights
Thursday September 18, 2015 7:30PM
If you're in the Toronto area, we invite you to join us on either or both evenings. You can also tap into the conversation online with #ChangeUp2015.
