We are excited to announce our continued support for the documentary screening series Divine Interventions: Documentary, spirituality, and social justice, in partnership with Cinema Politica and the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC).
The series will kick-off on Monday, November 24 in Montreal at Concordia University with Huicholes: The Last Peyote Guardians. Cinema Politica Director of Programming Ezra Winton describes this film as a “gorgeous and moving story of Indigenous traditions, spirituality and political resistance”.
Divine Interventions invites audiences across Canada to explore how our religious and spiritual beliefs can intersect with global and local social causes. According to Occupy Love director Velcrow Ripper, Divine Interventions “showcases the power of connecting spirit with action”. Forty screenings and discussions will take place on campuses across the country between now and spring 2015. The youth-driven debate, dialogue, and discovery extends online at divinedocs.tumblr.com.
The Divine Interventions series complements Inspirit's belief in the transformative role that documentaries can play in affecting social change. In 2014, we released a report which provides insight on how grantmakers can leverage documentaries as a tool to create positive impact.
